Fortunately I bumped into our fellowship program, a one of its kind platform which gives you a ground to try yourselves out irrespective of your background. Post fellowship I wanted to explore this sector more but couldn't further top-up my educational qualification with development studies or related. However having designed and executed a project on ground under fellowship for a year paved my way towards my current job. I am involved into a similar framework; i.e. observe, assess the issue, create a strategy and implementation plan, execute, monitor, generate outcomes.

Freedom to Chart Your Own Journey
The SBI Youth for India Fellowship has been uniquely designed to assist your
transition into a rural environment. It ascertains that the process of assessment
of ground realities, identification of a project that combines the need of
the community, your interest and the strengths of the NGO.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
The application process commences in the first quarter of the year. Filling up an application form is the first stage of the process. Application for the year 2020 – 21 is closed.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The candidates shortlisted in the 1st phase ie. Online Application will be notified on an on-going basis during the application period. In the 2nd phase ie. Online Assessment, a series of screenings such as the essay section will be conducted and the 3rd and final phase is the Selection Board Interview which will be conducted in major cities. We will constantly be in touch with the candidates shortlisted in the final phase over an online forum to know them better as well as clarify their doubts regarding the fellowship.
PRE-FELLOWSHIP RESEARCH:
The candidates will be given access to documents related to NGO program
areas and description. You will research, read and familiarize yourself
with these to be able to decide on your preferred programme area and
partner NGO.
As the fellowship is divided into two cohorts, August and October, your
cohort will be decided during this phase.
FELLOWSHIP JOURNEY
The fellowship is a 13-month long full-time commitment. It commences with an orientation where SBI Youth for India team along with partner NGO officials and development experts will familiarize and introduce the fellows to the concepts of rural development. This is the time when the fellows will be allocated their NGOs, project locations and mentors. To know more about the journey, click here
LIFE POST FELLOWSHIP
After completion of the Program:
You can continue in the rural development sector with NGOs or explore social entrepreneurship opportunities.
You can pursue further studies or other fellowships.
You can return to the mainstream and apply your learning to develop products and services more suited to Rural India.

Programme Details
13 months
2 cohorts commencing in August and October 2017
Full-time
Requires you to stay in rural areas near the project site
Week 1-2: Orientation & Training
A carefully designed orientation and training programme sensitizes you to the rural ethos, introduces you to rural project management techniques and equips you to handle the challenges you might face. It consists of both classroom sessions as well as field visits.

You will be assigned a project in accordance with your interest/skill sets and the requirements of the partner NGO.
This is the implementation period of the fellowship, where the Fellow shall attempt to achieve the defined milestones. Through regular feedback and 2 intermediate review workshops, you shall be provided with necessary guidance and support.
Month 12-13: Documentation of Project Work, Handover, Valediction
At the end of the programme, you need to document your project work with the learning from the project.
The Fellowship will conclude with a valediction amd the award of a Certificate of completion.
Fellowship Support
Stipend: Rs 15,000/- to meet living expenses
Local Transport Allowance: Rs 1,000/- per month
A Readjustment Allowance of Rs. 30,000/- upon successful completion of the Fellowship
To and fro travel costs of the Fellows from his/her place of residence to project location as well as for training programmes
Medical Insurance
Mentorship by experienced professionals in the field
Access to the Community through well-established Partner NGOs
Linkages with premier organizations of the country
Post Fellowship

As per an article about Food and Nutrition in India in the United Nations Food Programme published in 2016, our country is home to over one third of the world's stunted (chronically malnourished) children. Around 38.7 per cent children under five years of age fall in this category. These statistics propelled three Fellows to work on malnourishment in their home states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The forests in and around the area I live in Uttarakhand Pithoragarh Berinag Forests is on fire for close to a month, only now I have seen some posts in the media about the devastating fires that are raging in Uttarakhand. Reportedly nearly 1900 hectares of forest land has been destroyed and the fires still continue to rage engulfing the region in a haze of smoke.
Due to a few media agencies publishing articles reporting job vacancies with SBI Youth for India, our site is experiencing heavy traffic.
