The SBI Youth for India Fellowship has been uniquely designed to assist your
transition into a rural environment. It ascertains that the process of assessment
of ground realities, identification of a project that combines the need of
the community, your interest and the strengths of the NGO.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The Application Process for the 2022-23 batch is open now. You can apply for Stage-1 (Preliminary Application) using https://you4.in/yfiorg/. Notifications and announcements about the status of the applications shall be shared on our website and social media channels.
SELECTION PROCESS
Stage - 1 (Preliminary Application)
Applicants can begin the first stage of the application process by sharing a few basic details in the preliminary application form. In this stage, the candidates are required to share their basic details like professional background, academic details, etc.
Stage - 2 (Online Assessment)
Upon the completion of the first stage, the selected applicant will be invited for the Online Assessment Stage, where they will be required to answer in-depth essay questions, which will give us a glimpse into the applicant’s world-views, perceptions and overall approach towards the fellowship.
Stage - 3 (Personality Assessment & Interview.)
To understand certain attitudinal aspects of the potential candidates, they will be required to take the personality assessment test. Post successful completion of this test, the candidates will be invited for the final interview for an interaction with a Selection Board.

Post Selection Preparation
The selected fellows will be given access to certain documents related to the NGO’s thematic program areas, which will help them start their initial preparation in regards to the NGO and the programs & initiatives that it runs. Fellows can read and familiarize themselves with the document-deck, to be able to decide their preferred programme thematic area.
Familiarization to the NGO
The fellowship is a 13-month long full-time commitment. It starts with an orientation where the SBI Youth for India team, along with partner NGO officials and development experts introduce the fellows to the concepts of rural development. Based on a combination of the fellow’s interests, skill-sets, and the needs of the partner NGOs for their various projects, the NGO where the fellows will work, shall be decided.
Post Fellowship Opportunities
You can continue in the rural development sector with NGOs or explore social entrepreneurship opportunities.
You can pursue further studies or other fellowships.
You can return to the mainstream and apply your learning to develop products and services more suited to Rural India.
More than 70% of our alumni have continued to work in the development sector.
Programme Details
13 months
2 cohorts commencing in August and October 2017
Full-time
Requires you to stay in rural areas near the project site
Week 1-2: Orientation & Training
A carefully designed orientation and training programme sensitizes you to the rural ethos, introduces you to rural project management techniques and equips you to handle the challenges you might face. It consists of both classroom sessions as well as field visits.

You will be assigned a project in accordance with your interest/skill sets and the requirements of the partner NGO.
This is the implementation period of the fellowship, where the Fellow shall attempt to achieve the defined milestones. Through regular feedback and 2 intermediate review workshops, you shall be provided with necessary guidance and support.
Month 12-13: Documentation of Project Work, Handover, Valediction
At the end of the programme, you need to document your project work with the learning from the project.
The Fellowship will conclude with a valediction amd the award of a Certificate of completion.
Fellowship Support
Stipend: Rs 15,000/- to meet living expenses
Local Transport Allowance: Rs 1,000/- per month
A Readjustment Allowance of Rs. 30,000/- upon successful completion of the Fellowship
To and fro travel costs of the Fellows from his/her place of residence to project location as well as for training programmes

Post Fellowship

As per an article about Food and Nutrition in India in the United Nations Food Programme published in 2016, our country is home to over one third of the world's stunted (chronically malnourished) children. Around 38.7 per cent children under five years of age fall in this category. These statistics propelled three Fellows to work on malnourishment in their home states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The forests in and around the area I live in Uttarakhand Pithoragarh Berinag Forests is on fire for close to a month, only now I have seen some posts in the media about the devastating fires that are raging in Uttarakhand. Reportedly nearly 1900 hectares of forest land has been destroyed and the fires still continue to rage engulfing the region in a haze of smoke.
Due to a few media agencies publishing articles reporting job vacancies with SBI Youth for India, our site is experiencing heavy traffic.
